I remember learning how to make rice crispy treats from my dad. We would almost always make desserts on Sunday afternoons. This was a favorite from my younger years. The recipes got more elaborate the older I got. I think the key is equal amounts of marshmallows to cereal. The recipe on the bag has way more cereal to marshmallow ratio. This is also about the only recipe I have memorized and perfected the techniques :)
6 cups marshmallows
1/4 cup butter
6 cup rice crispy cereal
Measure out marshmallows into a glass bowl. Add butter. Place in microwave for 1 min 30 seconds (I have an 1100 watt microwave). While microwaving the marshmallows, measure out the cereal and generously butter a glass or plastic 9x13 pan. Next spray a wood spoon with no stick spray and stir the marshmallows until evenly mixed. Place back in microwave for 30 seconds. Stir again. Quickly poor in the cereal and stir until evenly coated. Now switch to a large plastic scrapper/spatula, spray with no stick spray and scrape out rice crispy treats into pan and press down with the rubber scrapper. Wait a little bit for things to set up and then enjoy!
